Rotobrush Duct Sealing & Repair: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you own a Rotobrush system and the sealing or duct repair side of the job has failed, we stock the parts and do the install. Typical Rotobrush duct sealing and repair work in Los Angeles runs $350 to $1,400 installed depending on the model and how much of the line needs attention. That is parts and labor, quoted in writing before we touch anything.

Most owners find out there is a problem the same way: a seal that was fine last season starts leaking, or a duct joint pulls apart and suddenly the brush head is binding mid-run. You hear it first. A rattle, a scrape, or the brush stalling when it used to glide. Then you see it: air pushing dust out of a seam, or the machine working harder than the job calls for. By the time a Rotobrush part fails to the point you notice it, the smart move is a proper match and a proper install. Not a guess and not a generic workaround.

Which Rotobrush Models This Applies To

The Rotobrush product line splits between the older AiR+ series, the mid-generation R500 and R650 units, and the current brush kits that run with the portable duct cleaning platforms. Sealing and repair parts are not universally interchangeable across those generations. A seal housing that fits an R500 will not seat correctly on an AiR+ drive head, and using the wrong one is how a minor leak becomes a scored shaft or a burnt motor bearing.

If you do not know your model, look at the drive head plate. Rotobrush stamps a model code there, usually two or three digits followed by a letter. If the plate is worn past reading, measure the brush head diameter and count the seal ring bolts. That pair of measurements gets us to the right part almost every time. For fans of the brand: Rotobrush OEM seals and gaskets are well made, but on certain models the aftermarket silicone seal kits actually outlast the factory rubber in Southern California heat. We carry both and will tell you which makes sense for your unit and how you use it. We also carry parts for Lennox, Trane, and Carrier duct runs, but Rotobrush sealing work is the bulk of what we see on residential rotary systems in Los Angeles.

Signs Your Rotobrush Duct Sealing & Repair Is Failing

  • Brush head stalling or binding mid-run. This usually means a seal has swollen or shifted and is dragging on the shaft. Left alone, it burns the motor and turns a $40 seal into a $400 repair.
  • Fine dust blowing out of the drive coupling. That is a failed dust seal at the interface. The brush creates positive pressure inside the housing, and any gap becomes a leak point that sprays the room you are working in.
  • New vibration at the handle or the drive head. A worn bushing or a cracked seal ring changes the rotational balance. Rotobrush heads spin fast enough that a small imbalance is a loud one.
  • More effort to push or pull the brush, with no change in duct condition. The seals are supposed to keep the brush centered. When they wear down, the brush flops against the duct wall and resistance climbs.
  • Visible cracks or flattening on any rubber gasket, boot, or seal when you inspect the head. In Los Angeles, we see rubber parts dry out faster than in coastal climates. Dry heat plus stored-in-a-truck temps kills seals ahead of schedule. If it looks cracked, it is already leaking.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Los Angeles owners, a straight Rotobrush seal replacement typically lands at $350 to $650 for the common R500 and R650 configurations. If the repair includes a drive head rebuild, bushing replacement, or re-sealing a longer section of the duct line itself, the installed price moves to the $700 to $1,400 range. The spread comes down to three things: which generation you own, whether we are replacing one seal or a full kit, and how much accessible ductwork needs sealing once we are in there.

Every quote is written down before work starts, and it is the price you pay. That includes OEM or aftermarket parts, labor, and cleanup. If a seal we installed fails within a year, the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the return trip and the replacement at no charge. No negotiating for it. It is in writing because Roy Castellanos has seen too many Los Angeles customers get burned by duct companies that quote low and bill high at the door.

DIY or Call Us?

There is a small set of things you can safely check. Inspect the seals for visible cracks. Clean the drive head after each job. Confirm the model code. That is about it.

The repair itself is where DIY goes wrong. A Rotobrush seal replacement often calls for driving out the old ring without scoring the housing, seating a new gasket to spec, and getting the seal ring bolts to an even torque. Too tight, the seal binds and the brush stalls. Too loose, it leaks and you are doing the job twice. Then there is the dust itself: duct sealing work in a Los Angeles home stirs up whatever has been sitting in those runs, and a proper job means containing it, not blowing it through the living room. If you are thinking about tackling this and want an honest read on whether your specific repair is reasonable for a Saturday, call us at (361) 326-5060 and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you straight. If it needs a technician, we will give you the written price before anyone sets foot in the house.
